The Mountain Institute and Seneca Rocks Climbing School have partnered to provide a safe and challenging climbing experience for beginning climbers ages 13-16. Taught by instructors trained and certified by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), this camp will deliver some of the finest climbing in the Mid Atlantic! Students will follow a proven progression of skills designed to develop awareness of hazards and safe climbing practices.  Ultimately, students will experience the freedom of climbing rock in the mountains.

Your Experience

Have you ever wanted to climb? Our climbing camp takes place outdoors and covers the basic technical skills of rock climbing and the fundamentals of climbing movement. Campers in our program will experience real rock, learn to climb on it, find out how it got there and learn about the surrounding area.

This is a coed camp that focuses on the fundamentals of rock climbing through a low student-to-instructor ratio, which ensures the correct level of challenge, guidance, and safety for all participants.

Days at Climbing Camp will include top roping at Nelson Rocks and the Devil’s Backbone, hiking to the top of Spruce Knob, and experiencing the Nelson Rocks Via Ferrata or Canopy tour.  Evenings will include climbing clinics focused on gear, knots, commands and movement.

Our curriculum includes many climbing skills such as belaying, rappelling and anchoring. Campers will also learn valuable outdoor skills such as cooking, water treatment, Leave No Trace practices, leadership and natural history.  Don’t worry we’ll also have time for campfire fun, games and an ice cream social!

All activities are Challenge by Choice, each camper will choose their level of climbing comfort.

The Seneca Rocks Climbing School is an AMGA accredited rock climbing program with trained climbing instructors with over 35 years experience in guiding clients.
