Mountain Trail Monitors Suggested Packing List

 

Please bring the following items for camping:

 

______ 2 full water bottles (32 oz. or equivalent). Reusing Gatorade or water bottles works well. 

______ 1 set synthetic long underwear tops and bottoms.  Medium weight recommended. 

______ 2-4 short & long sleeved T-shirts, synthetic better than cotton

______ 3 pair light socks

______ 2 pair warm wool or synthetic socks

______ 1 wool or synthetic (fleece) long sleeve shirt or light wool sweater

______ 1-2 pair shorts

______ 1 pair of wool or synthetic pants.  Fleece works great.

______ 1 heavy wool sweater or synthetic jacket.  A heavy fleece works great. 

______1 sun visor or baseball type hat 

______ 1 rain suit – jacket and pants.  Heavy-duty rubber/plastic is great, Gore-Tex is fine, but not
              necessary. ***Ponchos are not adequate.

______ 1 pair comfortable waterproof boots for hiking.  Leather boots are fine if you have broken them in. 

______ 1 pair sneakers to wear around camp. 

______ 1 flashlight with extra batteries

______ 1 small backpack (book bag) to hold rain gear, extra layers, journal, and lunch during day trips.

______ 1 bowl, 1 spoon and fork.  Plates and knives are not necessary. 

______ 1 swimming suit

______ 1 journal or sketch pad with a pen and/or pencil (optional)

______ 3 heavy-duty garbage bags.  These keep belongings dry, separate dirty/ wet clothing, etc.

______ Toiletries: toothpaste and toothbrush, sunscreen, chapstick.  Soap for hand and face washing
              is provided. Travel sized versions are recommended.  Please do not bring any body sprays,
              soaps, cologne, etc. into the woods. You may certainly bring them to use after showering,
              just leave them with your shower stuff.

 

At the end of your course you will have the opportunity to shower before heading home. Please bring the following, which will be stored at our base of operations during the week.

______ 1 set of shower gear: soap, shampoo, towel

______ 1 set of clean clothes

Food and snacks are not necessary for your visit to The Mountain Institute, all food is provided. Please leave food and snacks at home.
